Anda Band (Mongolian, Bronze Medal) - Ode to Manduul Khan

Anda Band (ethnic Mongolian, Bronze Medal) - Brotherhood

English Lyrics translated from Mongolian:
The grand prairie is the place where we live.
Sliver yurts scatter on flowery grassland.
Handsome Bateer flies in the sky like an eagle. (Bateer in Mongolian means "the Eternal Hero")
He rides the horse for thousands miles.
He guards the peace of the pasture.
The green prairie is guarded by us.
The brave & warrior shepherds recapture livestocks from wolves.
Old papa Erji claims back his lost cattle.
The paeans fly in the sky, making the prairie peaceful & prosperous.

Anda Band members are ethnic Mongolian Chinese. Anda in Mongolian means brotherhood. Actually most of the members in this band grew up in the same place and were classmates when they were in the elementary school. The average age of this band is only 20. It is very difficult to win a medal in the National Singing Contest. They successfully made it when they were still very young. Many congratulations to Anda Band!

To win a medal at the National Singing Contest, the following criteria should be met.
1. The singing technique should be excellent.
2. The singing performance should be affecting. That is, if the singer sings a love (or sorrowful) song, the audience should feel that their hearts are full of love (or sorrow).
3. The singer should be the best singer (or at least one of the best singers) among all those who can use the same singing technique in the world. For example, Byeon, Yeonghwa used Korean Vibrato singing technique in her performance and it is very difficult to find a Korean singer (even in South Korea and North Korea) comparable with her.
4. Since this National Singing Contest is not for a single ethnic group, but for all Chinese ethnic groups, so the singer should show the most beautiful part of her ethnic culture during her performance. And the audience should be shocked by the beauty of her ethnic culture.

I think all finalists met the first criterion. Those who were competed out in the first round apparently did not meet the second criterion. Those who were competed out in the second round seemed not to meet the third criterion. The last criterion is the most difficult for singers. Those who were competed out in the third round seemed not to meet the forth criterion. 9 singers (bands) entered the forth round and only 6 of them got medals. I believe that it was very difficult for referees to determine who should be competed out in the forth round.

Anda Band apparently met all criteria listed above. This band has the best throat singers in the world. Besides their singing, their techniques of playing Mogolian traditional musical instruments are unsurpassable in the world. One might notice that a player in the middle was playing a musical instrument similar to a flute. That is a typical traditional Mogolian musical instrument called Modun Choor (木墩察尔). To play it, a player firstly needs to produce a long low-pitch voice in his throat, and then uses three holes at the Modun Choor to produce another voice. Only a few people can play this instrument in the world now.

Anda Band's performance was very impressive. Their performance let me feel that I was in the beautiful prairie of Inner Mongolia of China. I could hear the voices of wind, horses, and wolves in their performance. They successfully let the audience feel in love with the Mongolian culture. It was an excellent performance.
